The MuhRO Hub is the MuhRO launcher. It installs and updates your game, signs you in to your Master Account, starts your game accounts and opens the tools for configuring the client. The same window shows the latest news and the MuhRO web app with events, chat rooms, the market and your account.

This guide describes MuhRO Hub version 1.0.69. The launcher updates itself when you start it. Button names below use the English interface. Available options can differ between the original client and the beta client.

Getting started

  1. Start the MuhRO Hub. Open Settings and use Download game, Install downloaded ZIP or Open existing installation when no game is installed yet. The launcher remembers your game folder.
  2. The game updates automatically when the launcher starts. Wait until the status under the main button says Ready.
  3. Sign in with your Master Account e-mail address and password.
  4. Before your first launch, open Game Setup on the Play tab or in Tools. Select your graphics device and resolution, use Test graphics if needed and click Save.
  5. Click Play or click a game account in the list.

The launcher checks the original client's saved graphics settings before launch. Missing or invalid settings open Game Setup and must be saved successfully before you can continue. Merely opening or cancelling the window does not complete setup. Existing valid settings are reused.

Saving settings does not start the game automatically. Close Game Setup and click Play when you are ready.

The hub window

Area Purpose
Play Shows your game accounts after sign-in or the Master Account sign-in form.
News Lists the latest MuhRO news and patch notes. Select an entry to read it.
Tools Opens Game Setup, Turbo Setup, /greymap + LGP and Addons.
Settings Manages the game installation, verify and repair, the patch host, proxy latency and the community links.
Home, Community, Support, Market and Me Show the MuhRO web app inside the launcher.
Server status Shows the Login, Char and Map server lights with the number of players, shops and alts online.
Main button Changes with the situation: Update, Sign in, Play or Retry update.
Progress and status Shows the current update or operation. Long messages offer Details.
Language Changes the launcher's interface language.
Version Shows the launcher version, the classic patch number and the game file release. You can select and copy it for a support request.

The language selector offers System language and 14 languages: English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Czech, Japanese, Malay, Indonesian, Thai, Italian, Korean and Simplified Chinese. Changing it keeps your sign-in. It changes the launcher interface and the web app sections where the app has that language. It does not change the game's language.

You can resize the window. The launcher remembers its size even with display scaling above 100%.

Installing or moving the game

Open Settings to manage the game installation. The launcher does not have to be in the game folder.

  • Download game opens the game download page on the website. Sign in there to download the game.
  • Install downloaded ZIP installs a downloaded game ZIP into a folder you choose.
  • Open existing installation selects a game folder that is already installed. A folder that only contains Muh.exe, such as your Downloads folder, is not treated as a game.
  • Verify / repair game files checks every game file against the signed release and downloads damaged or missing files again.
The Settings tab with the game installation, Patcher Control, proxy latency and community links.

Updates and download servers

The game updates every time the launcher starts. Keep the launcher open until the status says Ready. Signing in and starting the game are unavailable until required updates are complete.

  • The main button changes to Update when a new patch comes out while the launcher is open. Close all game clients before using it.
  • After a failed or cancelled update the main button offers Retry update.
  • In Settings > Patcher Control the cross button cancels the current update and the arrow button retries patching.
  • Patch Host saves your preferred download server on this computer. It is tried first on the next update attempt. Other hosts can be used as fallbacks.

On LIVE, the available download hosts are Patcher EU, Patcher EU 2 and Patcher NA. The TEST launcher has its own host list. Changing Patch Host affects patch downloads. It does not choose your in-game proxy.

A failed update shows a short reason under the main button, for example that a game file is in use or the disk is full. Select Details for the full message and Copy to copy it for a support request. Close running game clients and select Retry update. Select another Patch Host and retry if downloads remain unreliable.

A failed update: the sidebar shows a short reason, Details and Retry update.
Details shows the full message with a Copy button.

Use the Addons and Custom GRF controls described below for supported customization. They replace the old guide's manual patch downloads and archive-editing instructions.

Launcher updates

The launcher updates itself. It downloads a new version in the background and checks its size, checksum and signature first. A notice in the sidebar then says that the launcher update is ready. Select Restart now or keep playing: the update installs at the next start. The launcher returns to the previous version and tells you if a new version does not start correctly.

A downloaded launcher update waits for Restart now.

Signing in and launching a game account

Sign in with your Master Account e-mail address and Master Account password. An individual game account's username and password are not the credentials for this form.

Remember e-mail saves the e-mail address for the next sign-in. The launcher also keeps a saved session that may sign you back in while it remains valid. Closing the launcher does not sign you out. Use Logout when you want to end the saved session, especially on a shared computer. Signing in to the launcher also signs you in to the web app sections. Signing out of either signs out both.

The Play tab before sign-in.

After signing in:

  • Click Play. With one game account it starts that account. With several game accounts it asks which one to start every time.
  • Or click a game account in the list to launch it directly.
  • Online and Offline show the account's reported status. An online account offers Click to Kick. This requests a disconnect; wait a few seconds before trying to launch again.
  • A B marker identifies a borrowed account.
  • Filter accounts searches the account list. Long lists scroll inside the list.
  • Drag account rows to reorder them or use Move to top and Move to bottom. The order is stored on this computer. Reset order removes your saved order.
  • Refresh Now reloads the account list and status.
  • Game Setup opens the graphics, audio and game settings.
  • Manage opens Master Account management on the website.
  • Create new Game Account opens the account creation page.
With several game accounts, Play asks which one to start. These are example accounts.

Beta client

Launch beta client appears only when your account is allowed to use the MuhRO Beta Client. Select it before you start a game account. The launcher downloads or verifies the required beta files before launching.

The checkbox starts unchecked in a new launcher session. The original client's Game Setup does not configure the beta client's graphics. Use the beta client's own settings for that client.

If the game window does not appear

After you start a game account the launcher watches the started game. A notice in the sidebar appears when no game window is visible on a connected screen about a minute after the startup splash. It offers:

  • Show game window moves the game window back onto your main screen.
  • Close game and reset display closes the game and saves windowed settings that fit your main screen.
  • Dismiss hides the notice.

Game Setup also makes the game center its window after a size or fullscreen change and moves an off-screen borderless window back to the main screen.

The notice for a started game without a visible window.

News

The News tab lists the latest MuhRO news and patch notes from the forum. Select an entry to read it inside the launcher.

The News tab.

Tools

The Tools tab opens Game Setup, Turbo Setup, /greymap + LGP and Addons. They are described below. Compatibility mode helps when Turbo Setup shows missing text.

The Tools tab.

Game Setup

Open Game Setup on the Play tab or in Tools to configure the original client inside the launcher. A separate OpenSetup application is no longer needed for this workflow.

Close running original clients before changing settings. Some preferences are shared across characters and client installations in the same Windows environment or Wine prefix. The launcher may require every original client to be closed before saving shared settings. If a running client blocks an action the message names it, for example Muh.exe (PID 4242), and explains how to end it in Task Manager.

Game Setup loads your current configuration and contains four tabs: Display, Audio, Game and Maintenance.

  • Save applies the settings and reports the result. The window remains open after a successful save.
  • Cancel or the close button discards unsaved form edits.
  • Reset display and audio puts defaults into the form. Review them and click Save to apply them. It also resets the displayed quality and window/input options but keeps the Game tab's command toggles.

Maintenance actions have their own confirmation and take effect immediately after confirmation. Closing the dialog or pressing Cancel does not undo a completed maintenance action.

Display

For a first setup, select a detected graphics device and a windowed resolution that fits your display. Reset display and audio prefers DirectX 9, 1280 x 720 and 32-bit color when these are available. These are starting defaults; you can choose a different supported mode.

The Display tab with an example graphics device and windowed resolution.
Setting What it does
Graphics API Selects DirectX 7 or DirectX 9 for the original client. The available devices and modes depend on this choice and the installed renderer.
Graphics device Selects a device detected on your computer. Choose one from the list. Recheck this setting after a graphics driver or renderer change.
Resolution Sets the game's render size. Choose an offered mode for fullscreen. Custom Width and Height are available for windowed play within the supported limits.
Color Depth Selects an available color depth, normally 32 bit or 16 bit. Availability depends on the device and mode.
Fullscreen Starts the original client in fullscreen. Fullscreen and Borderless window cannot be enabled together. A hint warns when fullscreen would change your desktop resolution or use a second display. That does not work on every PC.
Test graphics Opens a preview of the selected mode for up to 15 seconds. Press Escape to close it early. Testing does not save settings or launch your game account.
Set Windows high performance GPU Sets Windows' graphics preference for the game executable. This Windows-only option can be useful on systems with more than one GPU. The actual result depends on the driver and hardware.

After a successful preview, click Save. If the preview fails, return to a supported device and mode before trying again.

Window and input options

Additional controls are shown when the installed client provides ROExt support. Save changes and restart the game to use them.

Window options with the Minimize with Ctrl+W checkbox enabled.
Setting What it does
Borderless window Uses a window without the normal border. Leave Fullscreen disabled for this mode.
Custom borderless size Enables the custom window position and size fields. Window X and Y set its position; Window Width and Height set its size.
Always on top Keeps the game window above ordinary windows.
Remap extra mouse buttons Enables ROExt's additional mouse-button mapping. It does not provide a custom binding editor.
Close with Alt+PrintScreen instead of Alt+F4 Changes ROExt's close shortcut to reduce accidental closes with Alt+F4.
Reduce CPU use in the background Reduces CPU use while the game window is inactive.
Disable VSync Disables vertical synchronization through ROExt. This may change frame pacing and can allow tearing.
Disable screen fading Disables the supported fade-out and fade-in transitions.
Minimize with Ctrl+W Check this box to let Ctrl+W minimize the game window. Uncheck it to disable the shortcut. Save and restart the game to apply the change.
Allow cursor outside the game window A legacy compatibility option. The current ROExt build does not implement the old MouseFreedom setting, so this checkbox does not provide that behavior in the current build.

Audio

BGM enables background music and Sound effects enables game sounds. Each has a volume slider from 0 to 100.

Audio device options and separate music and sound-effect volumes.

The advanced controls are:

Setting Choices
Sound mode No sound, 2D sound or 3D sound.
Speaker mode Stereo, Headphones, Surround or Four speakers.
Sound channels 48, 32 or 16.
Sound frequency 22050, 11025 or 8000 Hz.
Sound quality 16 bit or 8 bit.

Some advanced sound settings are legacy preferences and may have no audible effect in a particular client build. Save and restart the game after changing them. If sound is missing, check Sound mode, the BGM and Sound effects switches, their volumes and the Windows or Wine audio output.

Game

This tab includes Trilinear filtering, Mouse exclusive, Sprite quality and Texture quality. Sprite and texture quality offer Low, Medium and High.

The Game tab contains quality options and client command preferences.

The remaining checkboxes store client command preferences. The table lists the controls and their associated commands. Some are legacy client features; availability and behavior depend on the client build.

Group Preferences
Input and targeting Battle mode (/battlemode), No Shift skill use (/noshift), No Ctrl attack lock (/noctrl), Attack snap (/snap), Item snap (/itemsnap), Skill snap (/skillsnap), Battle target guide (/btg), Quick slot 1 (/q1) and Quick slot 2 (/q2).
Chat and messages Block trade requests (/notrade), Skill failure messages (/skillfail), Hide public chat (/notalkmsg), Hide guild chat (/notalkmsg2) and Login messages (/loginout).
Names and interface Show names (/showname), Window snap (/window), Shopping board (/shopping), Status icons (/stateinfo), Monster HP bar (/monsterhp), Minimap (/minimap), Guild emblems (/emblem), Show shops (/showshop) and First-run tips (/firstrun).
Graphics and camera Fog (/fog), Auras (/aura), Alt aura display (/aura2), Miss display (/miss), Effects (/effect), Camera rotation (/camera), Light map (/lightmap), Quake effect (/quake), Sprite mable (/mable), Expanded sight (/zoom) and Mineffect (/mineffect).
AI preferences Homunculus AI (/hoai) and Mercenary AI (/merai).
Legacy shortcut buttons Cash shop button (/cashshop), Gold PC button (/goldpc) and Roulette button (/roulette).

Some labels need additional context:

  • No Ctrl attack lock allows automatic attacking without holding Ctrl.
  • Quick slot 1 uses right-click for F9. Quick slot 2 uses the mouse wheel for F7 and F8.
  • Hide guild chat stores the broader /notalkmsg2 preference, which hides chat messages including guild chat.
  • Show names changes the character-name font and detail style. It is not a name-visibility switch.
  • Shopping board controls single-left-click shop opening and right-click closing.
  • Status icons controls status-icon descriptions.
  • Battle target guide controls the battleground icon.
  • Camera rotation stores the camera-zoom preference.
  • Auras stores the client's simplified aura preference. Alt aura display controls aura visibility.
  • Expanded sight is the camera zoom-out preference. It does not increase targeting range.
  • Sprite mable is the Spirit Marble effect preference, also called Sprite Marble in the client's messages.

Maintenance and backups

Use Maintenance when a specific client preference or cache needs repair. Read the confirmation before continuing. Close the game first so it cannot write old settings back or keep files open.

Maintenance actions create backups before changing the selected settings or files.
Action Result
Reset window and chat positions Backs up and resets saved interface and chat-window positions. Useful for windows that are misplaced or off screen.
Reset remembered skill levels Resets the client's remembered skill-use levels. It does not reset learned skills or refund skill points.
Clear emblem cache Moves the cached guild emblems to backup so the client can recreate its cache.
Move screenshots to backup Moves the current screenshot folder into the dated backup.
Move replays to backup Moves the current replay folder into the dated backup.
Move chat logs to backup Moves the current chat-log folder into the dated backup.
Reset graphics, interface and skill levels Backs up and resets the corresponding client options and remembered interface/skill preferences. Review and save Game Setup before launching again. This action does not erase game accounts, character progress, installed patches or your screenshot, replay and chat-log folders.

The result shows the backup location under savedata/setup-backups in your game folder. Keep this backup if you might need to recover files or settings. The included backup.json records the action and restoration information. There is no automatic Restore button in Game Setup; ask support if you need help restoring a backup.

Interface positions and remembered skill levels can be shared across all original clients and characters using the same Windows environment or Wine prefix.

Turbo Setup

Open Tools > Turbo Setup to edit Turbo bindings in the configuration window. Normal configuration no longer requires editing a file in Notepad.

Turbo repeats a configured action while you hold its assigned key, the controller is enabled and the game is focused. Release the key to stop repeating. Use the pause shortcut while the game is focused to turn the controller on or off. The default Pause Key is P, making the shortcut Alt+P. The default starting state is Off.

Adding and editing bindings

  1. Under Add Binding, choose the binding type.
  2. Capture the key you want to use. For a skill or item, use the key assigned to its in-game hotbar slot.
  3. Set the delay between repeats and click + Add.
  4. Review the binding list and click Save.
  5. In the game, enable Turbo with Alt+P if using the default pause key, then hold the assigned key.
Binding type Use
Smart Left Presses the skill key and clicks at the mouse position. Use it for skills that require a target or ground selection.
Alt+Right click Repeats Alt+right-click. This action does not press a skill hotbar key.
Turbo Repeats the assigned key. Use it for actions that work from the hotbar without a target click, such as suitable self-use skills or consumables.

Each key should have one binding. Existing rows let you change the type, key and delay or delete the binding. Delays are in milliseconds and can range from 1 to 10000. The initial default is 10 ms. A delay is the minimum wait after an action, not a guaranteed cast rate. A shorter delay does not remove skill cooldowns, cast times or server restrictions.

You can change the Pause Key, Default State and Default Delay. The pause shortcut uses Alt plus the configured Pause Key. Changing Default Delay does not rewrite the delays already set on existing bindings. Changing Default State also updates the enabled state in a running client.

Save writes the configuration to MuhTurbo.ini. The current original client automatically reloads valid changes without needing a restart.

Profiles and other Turbo controls

  • Selecting a profile loads its saved configuration. Save current edits before selecting another profile.
  • Save saves edits to the selected profile. Saving an inactive profile does not activate it.
  • Switch makes the selected profile active and saves it.
  • New creates a named profile from the currently displayed configuration.
  • Delete removes a profile. At least one profile must remain.
  • The key-capture options include a numpad preference. The editor also offers Dark and Light appearance.
  • INI Path and Load are advanced controls for loading a configuration file. Leave the normal path unchanged unless you specifically need to work with another configuration.

If the Turbo window opens with missing text, close it, enable Compatibility mode on the Tools tab and reopen the tool. This setting affects the Turbo editor's display.

Addons

Open Tools > Addons to install or remove supported visual customizations. Close game clients before changing files and wait for the operation to finish. Check the reported installed state, then restart the game to see the result.

Official visual addons, renderer choices and the Custom GRF controls.

Official visual addons

Addon Available choices
Wide Description Skin On or Off.
Transparent Skillbar On or Off.
Original Cursor On or Off.
HD8Bit Damage Font On or Off.
Hotbar Numbers White, Black or Off.
Original Casting Circle On or Off.

Off removes that official visual override. The appearance then comes from the remaining installed game and custom assets.

Reset official add-ons switches the official visual addons off together. It keeps your custom and gray textures and does not reset the Renderer selection.

Renderer

The Renderer row offers Default, DXVK and dgVoodoo. Default restores the renderer choice without one of these local wrappers. DXVK and dgVoodoo are alternative graphics compatibility options; their results depend on the computer and driver.

The Renderer choice and Game Setup's Graphics API are separate settings. After changing Renderer, reopen Game Setup, review the detected graphics device and mode, test if needed and save. An unrecognized custom renderer can prevent graphics detection; select a supported Renderer option before trying again.

Custom GRF

Custom GRF is the supported place for permitted custom asset archives. You do not need to edit GRF.INI or merge changes into the launcher's managed game archives.

  • Replace from archive replaces the saved custom collection with the selected archive and enables it.
  • Merge archive adds to the saved collection and enables it. If both contain the same file path, the incoming file replaces that entry.
  • Off disables the custom collection while retaining it for later.
  • On re-enables the saved collection. If no collection is saved, it opens archive selection.

Supported input formats are GRF, GPF, ZIP, RGZ and compatible additive THOR archives. Imports are checked before installation. Protected content and malformed archives are rejected. THOR files that delete content or do not merge into a GRF are not supported here. This is an asset importer, not a DLL or executable installer.

Headgear, NPC, monster and class sprite replacements are not permitted. Importing an archive does not change those customization rules.

Custom assets can take priority over official visual addons. If an addon appears unchanged, temporarily turn Custom GRF off and restart the game to check for an overlapping custom file.

Older manual downloads for a transparent menu or original textures do not have their own official addon buttons. A compatible permitted asset archive can be imported through Custom GRF. Old links and archives should not be assumed to work with the current client.

/greymap + LGP

Open Tools > /greymap + LGP to install gray-map textures, customize tiles and change LGP artwork. Close the game before changing these files and restart it afterward.

Gray-map sources, custom tiles and LGP image controls. Scroll within the panel for more options.

Gray-map textures

  1. Choose the built-in Gray or Vik Green source.
  2. Click Install / Replace and wait for the success message.
  3. Launch the game and use /greymap to toggle the installed gray textures.

Clear installed gray empties the installed gray texture archive. Use the in-game /greymap command when you only want to turn the display off temporarily. The launcher does not show whether the in-game toggle is currently on.

Replace from archive installs a compatible custom gray texture set. Merge archive adds compatible textures to the existing set. Keep your source archive if you might want to reinstall it later.

Gray imports accept recognized gray-grid BMP textures. Ordinary world textures, map geometry, scripts, effects and sprites do not belong in this importer. Map shapes and movement permissions remain server-controlled.

Custom tiles

You can choose images for Walkable, Blocked, Water and Snipable tiles.

Choose an image for each tile type you want to change, then apply the selected images.
  1. Use Choose image for each tile type you want to change.
  2. Review the selected images.
  3. Click Apply selected images and wait for completion.
  4. Restart the game and use /greymap.

Only the selected tile types change. Reset returns one tile type to its built-in artwork. Empty or void areas use the blocked tile.

Images must be PNG or BMP, at most 8 MB and no larger than 2048 x 2048 pixels. Tile artwork is converted to 32 x 32 pixels without transparency. Changing a tile's image does not change where your character can move or attack.

LGP images

The LGP section changes the artwork for Circle, Square, All skill floors or an individual skill's floor image.

  1. Close the game. If you previously turned Custom GRF off, turn it back on in Addons. No separate archive is needed for your first LGP image.
  2. Select the image or skill to change. Search by name, skill ID or effect ID if needed.
  3. Use Choose image, inspect the selection and click Install image.
  4. Restart the game to load the changed artwork.

Seen last session filters the list to floor skills recorded during your last game session. If the list is empty, play a session containing floor skills first. Individual skill images take priority over the All skill floors artwork.

LGP imports accept PNG or BMP up to 8 MB and 2048 x 2048 pixels. Transparency is preserved. Reset image removes the selected custom override. A reset skill can then use your All skill floors artwork if you have customized it. Restore all originals removes the custom LGP artwork while keeping unrelated custom assets.

Proxy Latency

Select Open next to Proxy Latency in Settings to compare measured connection routes. Refresh repeats the measurement. Best marks the route with the lowest calculated score in that measurement.

Measured routes with the best one at the top. The values are examples.

The results can include estimated route delay, hop delay and failed connection probes shown as loss. This loss value is not a direct measurement of in-game packet loss. Conditions can change, so the lowest result is not a guarantee of the best connection throughout a game session. This window measures routes; clicking or refreshing it does not select your in-game proxy.

Crash diagnostics

Automatically send crash diagnostics below the account list on the Play tab controls automatic report uploads where supported. It is enabled by default. Turning it off keeps reports local instead of uploading them automatically.

The launcher can show whether reports were sent, retained or are waiting for another attempt. If you report a crash to support, include what you were doing and the approximate time even when automatic diagnostics are enabled.

Linux and Wine

The launcher also runs natively on Linux (x86_64). Game Setup and the original client use your Wine prefix. Game Setup works when the game folder is reached through linked folders, including the Wine Z: drive. On tiling desktops the launcher window can be resized like any other window.

Troubleshooting

Problem What to check
Login or game launch is unavailable Wait for patching to finish. Read the current status or error. If an update is required, close game clients and complete it.
Game Setup keeps opening before launch Select a detected device and supported mode, then Save. Close the window after the success message. A preview or Cancel does not save the configuration.
No graphics device or an unsupported renderer is reported Check Addons > Renderer and select a supported option. Reopen Game Setup afterward. Original-client graphics detection on Linux requires a working Wine environment.
Graphics fail after changing renderer or driver Reopen Game Setup and review the detected device. Try a supported windowed mode and Test graphics, then Save. Reset display and audio can refill the form with defaults.
Saving reports that settings changed elsewhere Close other setup tools and game clients. Close and reopen Game Setup to load the current values, then make the changes again.
Saving reports a permissions or shared-settings error Follow the exact error. Close every original client when requested. If it persists, send support the error text and launcher version.
A game account still shows Online Use Click to Kick if you intend to disconnect it, wait a few seconds and Refresh Now before trying again.
Turbo does nothing Check the binding key, hotbar assignment and active profile. Save the configuration and enable the controller with Alt plus its Pause Key. Hold the binding key while the game is focused. Restart the game if it has not picked up the saved configuration.
Turbo Setup has missing text Close the tool, enable its Compatibility mode on the Tools tab and reopen it.
An addon or LGP image is not visible Check that the operation succeeded and restart the game. Check Custom GRF state and possible overlapping custom assets.
Gray textures have not changed Confirm that textures are installed, restart the game and check the in-game /greymap toggle. Installing textures and enabling their display are separate steps.
Interface or chat windows are misplaced Close the game and use Game Setup > Maintenance > Reset window and chat positions. Keep the reported backup.
An update fails because a game file is in use Close the game and select Retry update. Select Details to see and copy the full message.
Every update fails with "MuhVault pending recovery failed" The current launcher repairs this automatically. With an older launcher close the game and the launcher, delete the folder _muhvault_pending in your game folder and start the launcher again.
Game Setup says a game client is still running The message names the process and its PID. Close that game or end the process in Task Manager, then try again.
The game started but its window does not appear Use Show game window in the sidebar notice. If that does not help, use Close game and reset display.

For support, copy the launcher version and the exact status or error message. Include your operating system, selected renderer and the steps that reproduce the problem. A screenshot of the error can help; hide account details and never include your password.
